What To Expect When Turning 65
If you are already drawing your Social Security Benefits
- You should receive your Medicare card in the mail 3 months before the month you turn 65
- You will have an initial enrollment period 3 months before the month your Medicare starts, the month your Medicare starts, and 3 months after that month
- In this period you can choose a Medicare supplement and drug plan to go along with your original Medicare, or you can choose a Medicare Advantage plan.
If you are not drawing your Social Security Benefits
- You will need to sign up for your Part A and Part B with Social Security either online or you can visit an office closest to you.
- If you are still working and having group coverage through work you can sign up for just Part A and would sign up for Part B when you retire.
- Once you are signed up you will receive your Medicare Card in the mail
- You will have an initial enrollment period 3 months before the month your Medicare starts, the month your Medicare starts, and 3 months after that month
- In this period, you can choose a Medicare supplement and drug plan to go along with your original Medicare, or you can choose a Medicare Advantage plan.
- If you do not get a drug plan within your initial enrollment period you will have a plenty for every month you do not have one.
